Why did Matt Gaetz’ quixotic push for Attorney General fell apart?
I don’t believe it had anything to do with the salacious details of his sexual escapades. He knew the details, he knew they would come out. Rumors were that his confirmation hearing would be “Kavanaugh times 1,000” but do you think Matt Gaetz sees that as a humiliation? Or an opportunity to have a nationally televised moment of indignation?
I am of the opinion that Gaetz’ DOJ dreams died because of one simple fact:
He has loudly denigrated the GOP establishment for years, by name. Some of those names are votes he needed. He was never, ever, ever, ever, ever going to get them.
But we can also posit the following message getting to Mar-A-Lago… if Gaetz steps aside, we can shuffle Senate votes around for the rest of your cabinet.
And so, we get the Sunday Shows where DC talks to itself.
It sure looks like the GOP is closing ranks and the Dems know it.
