GA candidates rally on final day of campaign with big Trump finale
Well, that was a day.
Warnock seems to have the most engaged crowd that can articulate why they like him. Ossoff is like watching a Prince tribute band, you’re obviously just playing songs from another band but you ALSO know the solo from Purple Rain.
As for the Republicans, what else can you say about a Trump rally? It’s 48 degrees as I type this and there are thousands of people at a frigid air field on a Monday night. Trump Jr. gave the most coherent Trumpworld motivation to MAGA faithful on why to vote asking if they’d listen to the “morons” who are telling them to stay home. Furthermore, he said to take their cues from his father: when it looks the darkest you fight harder.
I asked rally attendees who they would bet on to win, expecting there to be a few Democrats who were realistic about the historic record of their party in runoffs or jaded MAGA fans ready to disconnect.
No one bet against their party. But one Trump fan had this caveat.
“Are you asking if the Democrats are going to cheat? If so, yeah, I’ll bet on that.”

For Stacey Abrams today is only a prelude to a rematch
POLITICO
Having spoken with Georgia Democrats for the last 48 hours I will say that Stacey Abrams is mentioned in reverent tones. She is an icon in the Peach State. As for Brian Kemp, his narrow win in 2018 looks anything but assured now that he’s atop Trump’s shit list.

Freaking oof, that last email (about ICU nurses splitting time) is depressing/more than a little terrifying if you have a loved one in the ICU. - MERRAN
I can only imagine. My thoughts are with your family.

Warnock can mostly let Loeffler and her PACs do his campaigning for him. We keep getting the same attack ad that is literally just him saying “let the children out of jail” and “mass incarceration is the problem” etc. No commentary, no voiceover, just pictures of him and a jail cell and a “too radical for Georgia” at the end. Everyone I know is laughing at it because it sounds great to us. There are a lot of voters in Georgia who think every black person should be in jail and those people were never going to vote for Warnock, ever. There are also a lot of people who are going to hear those words and want to vote for him more. - RICHARD
Not that this is some massive discovery, but in only a day here… inside the perimeter and outside the perimeter are two different planets.

Far be it for me to defend my homeland's response, but “More restrictions and punishments for violations than anywhere else on earth”? I’d like to know what reality some of your readers are living in as I’d like to live in the version of the UK there, maybe some of my relatives wouldn’t have caught it in December and would still be alive. Sure, we haven’t had the top-down denial that the US has had, and thankfully it hasn’t turned into a partisan issue here, but many of the restrictions exist on paper only, and people actually being punished for violations are virtually nonexistent.
The only restrictions that are actually enforced are shops and restaurants being closed during lockdowns, but people breaking everything else in order to visit friends and family, or have Christmas parties? There are plenty of people breaking them all the time (“It isn’t that dangerous really”, “Oh it won’t matter just this time”, or “Oh I’M not feeling ill so it’ll be fine”), and the worst they face is a bit of public shaming if they get caught. There have been a few fines issued, but there are so many exceptions that can be challenged that few of them will ever get paid.
Trying to claim that the UK's "strong response” is an argument for not having a response at all is laughable, having tough restrictions is one thing, but if they aren’t enforced then they are practically pointless. Other than the early vaccine approval, our response has been just as slapdash as it has been on your side of the Atlantic, just a bit more joined up as it isn’t being done state-by-state. The countries who have the strictest restrictions and who actually bother enforcing them, i.e. in Asia and Australia/NZ, are the ones with the best numbers, that isn’t a coincidence. - PHIL

Can citizens united be tied to the CA uber labor bill? Maybe a special episode for you. Without CU, could uber have advertised in its platform? Internal ads are 'free' like att and HBO zero rating. Is this the playbook for major corporations going forward, bombard users where the opposition can't? It seems unfair and slimy. - SEAN
The moment the polls flipped as much as they did I knew this was going to be an issue going forward. I don’t think this is a Citizen United issue but I’ll bet we get law regulating it.

At this point i assume trump made similar calls to other states he lost... he just has pissed off georgia secretary of state enough someone from his office recorded and released it. - PAYNE
That would be interesting… a good thing to follow up on if you’re a reporter in those states.
