House Passes Budget in a Tight Vote

The U.S. House of Representatives narrowly approved a crucial budget resolution central to President Donald Trump’s fiscal agenda, passing with a 217-215 vote. The budget outlines $4.5 trillion in tax cuts and $2 trillion in spending reductions over the next decade, with a particular emphasis on increasing funding for military and border security. At the same time, it proposes significant cuts to Medicaid and SNAP programs, a move that has already drawn fierce opposition from Democrats. In addition, the measure raises the debt ceiling by $4 trillion, aiming to prevent future default concerns as the bill moves to the Senate for further debate.

Despite strong Republican backing, the proposal has faced criticism for potentially adding $2.8 trillion to the national deficit by 2034. Supporters argue that the tax cuts will stimulate economic growth, ultimately offsetting the deficit increase, but the policy battle is far from over. The Senate has signaled its intent to push for permanent Trump-era tax cuts, setting up a legislative clash in the coming months.
